G You have designed a laminated armor material. The layers of ceramic and polymer are bonded together and you have determined the shear strength of the bonded interface is 40 MPa. You are looking at the design the mechanical engineers have come up with for mounting the armor in the frame of the vehicle and you are concerned. The design has the armor loaded with an axial compression that is off axis from the bond line by 30°, meaning the loading axis is rotated 30° counter-clockwise from the bond line. The axial stress is estimated to be 150 MPa. Will the bond hold? If yes, how much higher could the axial stress be without failing the bond? If no, how much lower should the axial stress be to make sure the bond does not fail? You MUST sketch the loading and orientation of the loading axis and the bond line for this problem so that I can see your work. You can get the right answer with the wrong analysis here and I will be grading to make sure you did the analysis correctly.
