The town of Pittsburg discharges 0.126 m3 /s of treated wastewater into Cherry Creek. The BOD5 of the wastewater is 34 mg/L. Cherry creek has a flow rate of 0.126 m3 /s. The BOD5 of the river before the wastewater outfall is 1.2 mg/L. The BOD rate constants are 0.222 and 0.090 d-1 for the wastewater and creek respectively. The temperature of the creek and wastewater is 20 C. Calculate the initial ultimate BOD after mixing. (Problem 7-24 from textbook)

For the closed feedwater heater below, feedwater enters state 3 at a pressure of 2000 psia and temperature of 420 °f at a rate of ix10 ibhr. the feedwat extracted steam enters state 1 at a pressure of 1000 psia and enthalpy of 1500 btu/lbm. the extracted er leaves at an enthalpy of 528.7 btu/lbm steam leaves as a saturated liquid. (16) a) determine the mass flow rate of the extraction steam used to heat the feedwater (10) b) determine the terminal temperature difference of the closed feedwater heater
