A solar cell has a short circuit current density of 40 mA/cm2 and an open circuit voltage of 0.60 V under one-sun illumination at room temperature (the power from an AM1.5 global tilt spectrum). Assume Eq. 1 represents a simple description of the solar cell operation. This neglects any resistances. i=1ų– 1. (evd/VT – 1) (1) where i is the current through the photovoltaic cell.

a) Draw a circuit that models this equation (no resistances).
b) Give an equation for the open circuit voltage and short circuit current.
c) Use this ideal diode equation to calculate the open circuit voltage which is expected at 1000 suns.
