A verbal picture.
Details.
Explanation:
Descriptive writing is the form of writing about anything that will give a detailed information about the thing that is being talked about. This literary technique employed by writers allows them the means to give their readers the 'visual picture' of what he/she is talking about.
While movies have the camera to do all the work of describing the scene or even the characters, writers have just words to give the "picture" in their books. It is then that this descriptive means of writing comes into use. By using various figurative languages such as metaphor, simile, or even analogies etc, they can provide the "image" of the thing that is being described or talked about.
Thus, descriptive writing provides a verbal picture for the readers to imagine and see/ understand the actual scene or visualize the event/ person. It also provides the details of the scene or person, painting the picture of the person or scene.
