Superheated vapor is flowing at a rate of 0.3 kg/s inside a pipe in a power plant. the pipe is 1650 cm long, has an inner diameter of 6 cm and pipe wall thickness of 0.75 cm. the pipe has a thermal conductivity of 18 w/m. k, and the inner pipe surface is at a uniform temperature of 404 k. the temperature drop between the inlet and exit of the pipe is 9 k, and the constant pressure specific heat of vapor is 2190 j/kg. k. if the air temperature in the power plant is 298 k, (a) determine the outer pipe surface temperature and (b) the heat transfer coefficient as a result of convection between the outer pipe surface and the surrounding air. To save energy, the air supply to a 2000 ft office has been shut off overnight and the room temperature has dropped to 40°f. in the morning, the thermostat is reset to 70°f and warm air at 120 f begins to flov in at 200ft'/min. the air is well mixed within the room, and an equal mass flow of air at room temperature (changing with time) is withdrawn through a return duct. the air pressure is nearly 1 atm everywhere. ignoring heat transfer with the surroundings and kinetic and potential energy effects, estimate how long it takes for the room temperature to reach 70°f. plot the room temperature as a function of time.
