We are learning about Operating Systems in the class. We are also laying a framework for learning Cyber Security. Take some time to research and think about the role an OS plays in the overall security of the organization. In 500-1000 words, write about what you find to be the most impactful way an OS plays a role in overall security and how this benefit or concern impact the business.

An Operating System is software that controls the operation of a computer and directs the processing of programs (as by assigning storage space in memory and controlling input and output functions).

The following are examples of Operating System:

Cyber Security refers to the state or process of protecting and recovering networks, devices and programs from any type of cyberattack. It can also be referred to as the maintenance and protection of system integrity, availability, and confidentiality.

Cyberattacks are an evolving danger to organizations, employees and consumers. They may be designed to access or destroy sensitive data or extort money. They can, in effect, destroy businesses and damage financial well being of organisations.

What’s the best defense? A strong cyber security system has multiple layers of protection spread across computers, devices, networks and programs.        

A lot of organisations purchase and install additional Security softwares. However because, an operating system is the control center of the computer onto which the security software will be installed, Its function is central to overall security of the system. If an OS in itself has weak layers of security, then the entire security infrastructure is fundamentally compromised and a time bomb and no matter how sophisticated the Antivirus or security software is, there will always be a loop hole.

There are Operating Systems (OSs) which are reputed to be very difficult to hack and are not very prone to viral attacks. Such OSs are thus recommended for commercial entities.
