Why is the specific heat of water 1 cal/g×°c?

The heat capacity of water is 1 cal/g/C degree, the heat capacity of ethanol is 0.58 cal/g/C degree, and the heat capacity of amonia is 1.23 cal/g/C degree. which of these molecules will increase it's tempreature first, if an equal amount of heat was added to an equal amount of substance at an equal rate?        (Amonia, Water, Ethanol)

I’d have to say no because without oxygen in the water the fish would all be dead. so if you want to fish for dead fish, pick the ponds with the lowest oxygen concentrations.
