Design an experiment. This is asking you to compare properties between different substances and discuss the strength of the intermolecular forces of those substances. Properties include: Melting point,
boiling point, and surface tension strength. You may design your own experiment or perform my
experiment. I would suggest for safety that you do some internet research rather than actually
performing the experiment.
Procedure:
1) Decide which substances you would like to compare. I would choose: water, sodium
chloride (NaCl, Table salt), sugar, oil, and vinegar.
2) Decide what property you want to examine. I would choose melting point.
3) Create a data table to collect your data.
4) Collect your data using online research. Cite your sources.
5) Decide which types of intermolecular forces must be the strongest, which must be the
weakest, and if you wish, which intermolecular forces must be present.
