Place several pounds of sugar and a gallon of water in a big pot and try to see how much sugar can dissolve in that gallon. Add more and more sugar, and finally it stops dissolving. a. Explain what happened to the molecules of water and sugar at this point.

Remember that temperature is a factor that affects solubility.

b. Describe what you can do to your pot of room temperature sugar water to get more sugar to dissolve, using this factor.

c. Explain the changes at the molecular level.
