The starting material is a 6 carbon ring fused to an epoxide through carbons 1 and 2. Both carbons have a wedged bond to the epoxide oxygen and a dashed bond to hydrogen. Step 1 reacts with sodium ethoxide, C H 3 CH 2 O minus. Step 2 is H plus and ethanol. Clearly indicate stereochemistry by drawing a wedged bond, a dashed bond and two in‑plane bonds per chiral carbon. The product(s) of the reaction are characterized as being achiral. S, S. racemic.
