LT 2.2.1: Identify the purpose of an investigation and/or the major concepts being investigated. Joselin was given a sample of metal that she was told was pure gold. She wasn't sure that she could trust the person who gave her
the metal so she decided to test it to make sure it was actually pure gold. Luckily Joselin learned in chemistry class that you can
identify metal by determining its density. She measured the mass of the metal and then determined its volume by displacement. After
completing her calculations she found that the density of her metal was 8.94 g/cm3. She compared her calculated density to a list of
known metal densities and determined that her metal sample was copper and not gold.
What is the purpose of Joselin's lab investigation
