In the SN2 portion of this experiment, an alcohol is converted into an alkyl halide. In the SN1 portion, alkyl halides are converted into alcohols. How are these apparently opposite reactions possible?Consider leaving groups and thermodynamics, rather than mechanism. SN2- 1-butanol to 1-bromobutane
