Within a community, animals depend on each other and plants for food. Sometimes, populations of one group within a community can become overgrown or scarce. Since animals are dependent on one another, this can negatively affect the entire community. Think about how the growth or decline of a population in the food web shown could affect the others in the community.

1) Plants would become scarce and rabbits would die out from starvation.
2) Rabbit and bird populations would grow, making plants and caterpillars scarce.
3) Plants would become scarce and caterpillars would die out from starvation.
4) Plants would not grow, which would starve caterpillars and rabbits, which would then starve the other animals.
5) Rabbit and birds become scarce.
6) Snakes would only eat rabbits, making rabbits scarce.
