Also energy enters the ecosystem from the sun, since our ecosystem is an open system as far as energy is concerned, I.e energy continuously gets in and out of the system. The organisms are able to capture use the solar energy in order to transform some inorganic compounds into organic compounds, through the photosynthesis. Herbivores, by eating vegetables, absorb their organic substances and metabolise them, i.e. transform them into other organic substances that can be used for all vital functions (breathing, movements, body temperature, and many others) and use them as structural material in order to grow.
