One mole of an ideal monatomic gas is initially at 300.00 K and 200.0 J*L-1 pressure inside a frictionless piston. The gas is compressed until the pressure is 2500.0 J*L-1. Assume the compression is isothermal and reversible. Our goal is to compute qsys (the heat transferred to the surroundings by the system).
1. If instead of a reversible isothermal compression, this system underwent a reversible adiabatic compression (imagine an insulating material surrounding the original system). Now your system includes the insulating material as well as the piston and gas within. What is the new ΔUsys ?
