Primary consumers need the sugar from their food, plants (which need the sun to survive), to make ATP energy to use.

Secondary consumers eat animals and breathe in oxygen to perform cellular respiration in order to make energy. The animals which they eat must eat plants to survive, and the plants need the sun to survive.
