Ahydrogen gas-filled discharge tube was activated. with one electron and one proton, hydrogen is the simplest element and gives the simplest line spectrum. there are only four lines in the visible region of the hydrogen spectrum, at 656 nm (red), 486 mm (blue-green), 434 nm (blue-violet), and 411 nm (violet). however, it was observed that there was a fifth line in the spectrum of hydrogen. what could be the reason for this? a) the hydrogen gas used was ionized. b) the gas used had traces of another element. c) the diffraction gradient distorted the spectrum d) the disintegration of the emitted photons of energy.
