Noble gas notation is used to summarize the electron configuration of an element while providing the most relevant information about the valence electrons of that element. The noble gases are helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon and are found in the last column of the periodic table.

Ex: sodiums noble gas notation would be

[Ne] 3s^1

In electron configuration it would be

1s^2, 2s^2, 2p^6, 3s^1
