- Pharmaceutical chemistry: it is one of the areas that has developed the most researches throughout history, studying, researching, and improving chemical compounds and substances that allow improving the life quality of people. In this area of chemistry it is very important to apply the latest discoveries on bacterias, viruses and other microorganisms, in order to develop medications, vaccines, specific treatments and antibiotics to prevent, cure and relieve diseases and pains. They also use the latest knowledge of science to develop hygiene and personal care products, cosmetics, among others.
- Food Chemistry: this area of chemistry studies and produces, without a doubt, one of the biggest products acquired by consumers: food. For all these products to reach consumers properly, they must carry out and maintain strict controls both in the formulation of the products, as well as in the packaging, preservation and transport of those, that’s why in this area of chemistry it is important to apply the new and better discoveries that allow food to be taken safely to consumers and maintaining their organoleptic characteristics (color, taste, texture and smell).
- Chemical Engineering: this area of chemistry allows to design the best production process so raw materials are transformed into a certain product, thus generating useful products for both industries and consumers. - Petrochemical: This area is responsible for developing petroleum products such as natural gas, and the fuels that make the means of transport can move. In addition, this type of chemical industry generates the largest amount of organic chemicals that are used in all other areas of chemistry, so their new discoveries are of great importance.
There are also areas of chemistry that although it does not produce a product that can be used directly by consumers, they conduct very important studies and researches that helps other areas of chemistry create new and better products useful for consumers, such as:
- Environmental Chemistry: carries out very important studies and research that allow us to know the impact (positive or negative) that human activities have on rivers, soils, oceans, glaciers and the atmosphere. This allows to produce more harmless and less toxic products for people, animals and the environment.
- Materials chemistry: carries out investigations of the properties of materials of all types that are used in the other areas of chemistry. Examples of materials are plastics, metals, building materials, polymers, etc. This allows other areas of chemistry to choose the best material that suits the product they want to produce.
