You are the Human Resources Manager in a large hospital. You have to put together a team of 5 people to work on a new project. The project would involve a mass recruitment drive to 200 staff- doctors, nurses and hospital administrative staff for the hospital. You have 7 candidates and from them you have to choose 5 employees for your team project. Your requirements on the team are as follows-

1.You need one good leader on your team to create goals, plan and execute the plans by assigning work to the right person.
2. You need one person to be good with math and accounting to plan the budget for the project, keep an eye on the expenses and analyse the test data taken from the interview candidates.
3. You need at least 2 people to source resumes and shortlist and call candidates for the interviews.
4. You need another 2 people to conduct interviews and administer the tests to the candidates.
5. You will need one person to write all the offer letters and employee contracts and send and receive emails from the candidates.
So the 5 staff you choose will do multiple roles.

Q1.Below are the profiles of the 7 staff, go through them carefully and choose the 5 that you think will make the best team for you. Explain for which role you have chosen each one, why you have chosen the person and why you have rejected the 2 out of the 7 of them.

Q2.According to the 5 stage model of team development what do you think will happen on your team in each of the 5 stages based on the personalities and cultures of the 5 staff that you have chosen.
-You must explain each of the 5 stages and talk about your 5 chosen employees at each stage.
-You must also say what personalities you think your 5 staff have- personality traits and based on Big 5 and Myers Briggs personality models.
- You have to write about the cultures of each of your 5 staff based on hofstede and say how they will behave according to their country’s culture.

EMPLOYEE PROFILES- (CHOOSE 5)

1. Marianne- She has a masters degree in nursing and business studies. She is an excellent nurse and nurse manager. She is from India and has been in canada only 3 years. Her knowledge of canadian culture and trends is limited. She’s from a traditional indian background and is not comfortable working with men. Her clinical knowledge and hospital management skills are excellent. She’s a good leader but she’s not a very agreeable person. She gets angry easily.
2. Shawn- He is a canadian with 5 years of healthcare recruitment experience and he is great with conducting job interviews. He has an MBA from UoT in Human Resources Management. His wife is expecting a baby in the next 2 months. Although he plans to keep working, he might have to take some leave to spend time with his new baby. He is not used to working with people from different cultures and he comes from a typical white, canadian family.
3. Judith- She is an american who recently married a canadian and moved to canada. She has a masters degree from the US and nearly 8 years of recruitment experience but not in healthcare. But her recruitment knowledge is excellent and she’s really good with sourcing candidates for job interviews. She is a bit introverted and prefers to work alone instead of a team but she is basically a nice person. She has great recruitment and presentation skills.
4. Mark- Mark has moved to Canada very recently from China. He speaks english well but he is not very confident with the language. He also feels nervous when talking to new people who are fluent in english. Mark is great with math and accounting. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Beijing University. He is still a little homesick here in Canada.
5. Mohammed- He is a pakistani origin canadian citizen and has been in Canada for over 10 years. He did his management degree at McMaster University. He has a good knowledge of Canadian recruitment and HR practices including labour law. He is a devout muslim who prays 5 times a day during work and he is taking leave to go for his prilgrimage during the project.
6. Sarah- She is a medical doctor who also has an MBA degree. She’s from Dubai and has been in Canada for 2 years. She’s a confident speaker and leader but she lacks experience in recruitment. However, she has a good knowledge of hospital operations and clinical procedures.
7. Shauna- She is a British- Canadian who has dual citizenship. She has worked in Canada for 5 years now. She was a nurse in the UK and in Canada, she is a nurse manager. She prefers the British healthcare system to the Canadian system. She is not very happy here. But she is a sincere worker and has good writing skills and accounting skills.
