Find TWO (2) different media articles from 2020/2021 each outlining a different employment relations story. These articles could report the outcomes of a court case, a description of a workplace strike, a health and safety problem or a significant or controversial dismissal. Other employment relations stories will be accepted but you might want to check them with me first to ensure they are relevant. The reported event can take place outside Aotearoa/NZ, but I expect most stories to be local.
Articles can be sourced electronically from a newspaper website, the STUFF website, SCOOP website, or from other web or print media such as the NZ Listener, Economist or Business Week.
You should:
• Correctly identify key actors, institutions and/or legislation involved in the matter and explain their role in the process and how they shaped the outcome.
• Explain why the trend/event/problem emerged/occurred.
• Discuss why the event matters. If a media outlet reported this story, presumably they think it’s important. What lessons will actors draw from the article? Which actors will it affect most? What will change as a result? Who wins/loses as a result?
• Broadly explain how the event demonstrates evolution in employment relations thinking.
