For starters, you need to make sure that the references are jobs that relate in some way to the job you are applying for. If you provide a babysitting reference for a software engineering position it will not help your case at all and would waste the hiring manager's time while reading the list. Secondly, you would need to provide detailed information on each reference. This includes name, address, position, job responsibilities, e-mail, etc. All of the info needed to know what job you did and how to contact the reference. The last big detail to keep in mind is to only provide references on jobs that will give a positive review. If the hiring manager contacts someone that tells them about all the negative aspects of you as an employee it can ruin your chances of landing the job.
