Although there are advantages and disadvantages to home-based workers for both the employer and employee the disadvantages to employer, employee, and society in general can be summarized as:

a. it increases the overall costs to everyone: employers, employees, and society.
b. it increases theft because employees are likely to take more office supplies home, which changes their overall attitude about honesty.
c. it decreases important social interaction between and among employees on a number of levels, resulting in a change in the social network and corporate culture.
d. it decreases everyone's competitive advantage.
