Mitosis occurs in somatic cells. When a liver cell divides to create new liver cells it will create daughter cells that are identical. This occurs through the same process of mitosis where a parent cell divides to yields two diploid daughter cells which are identical to the parent cells. This means the genetic composition, size and function remains unchanged every time new cells are formed.
