But Euglena is not completely autotrophic as it can absorb food from their surroundings. Hence, the Euglena is unique in that it is both autotrophic can make its own food and heterotrophic, takes food from outside. The eye spot in Euglena finds bright areas to gather sunlight to make their food. Euglena becomes heterotrophic and take nutrients by absorbing them across their cell membrane, when light is not available, and they cannot photosynthesize.
