The body makes antibodies against its own myelin in the diseases of Guillain-Barre syndrome and multiple sclerosis. Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare condition in which the immune system of the body attacks parts of the peripheral nervous system. Symptoms include weakness and tingling sensations in the legs which may be quickly spread paralyzing the whole body.
Multiple sclerosis is a disease that causes the demyelination ( disruption of the myelin) of spinal nerve and the brain cells (cells of the central nervous system). The symptoms vary depending on the nerves that are demyelinated.
