The main difference between mitosis and meiosis is that in mitosis, the daughter cells produced in mitosis are identical to the parent cell whereas the daughter cells produced in meiosis are genetically varied from the parent cell. in mitosis, the resultant daughter cells contain diploid set of chromosomes whereas in meiosis, the resultant daughter cells contain haploid set of chromosomes. mitosis happens in somatic cells whereas meiosis happens in gametes.
