Pasteur's pasteurization experiment showed that the spoilage in the straight-necked flask could only occur as a result of the germs in the air that entered the flask rather than just air or water causing spoilage in the broth. This disproves the spontaneous generation theory.

Louis Pasteur was the scientist who carried out the experiment which can be referred to as pasteurization experiment.Pasteur's experiment was carried to demonstrate that spoilage of the broth was caused by microbes in the air rather than non-living thing like air or water.

The following explained the steps of Pasteur's experiment:

A broth was prepared with similar nutrient used to prepare normal soup broth.Equal amounts of the broth were poured into two separate long-necked flasks.The neck one of the flasks was left straight, while the neck of the other was made S-shaped.Both broths were made sterile by killing whatever living matter they contain via boiling.Both broths were left to cool at room temperature and were exposed to the air.After some weeks, it was observed that the flask that had a straight neck changed color and was cloudy while nothing changed in the flask that had a curved neck.

Pasteur concluded that:

The straight-necked flask allowed germs in the air to fall into the broth and contaminated it, while the curved-shaped flask trapped germs which made germs unable to reach the broth.The changed color is an indication of spoilage that took place in the straight-necked flask.
