G0 is the phase in which cells cease to undergo the S phase, G2 and mitosis. It is in this phase that cells such as neurons, fat cells, and liver cells and the majority of adult cells remain unless there is severe trauma which requires healing and tissue repair. During G0 the cell tends to its cellular job functions specific to the type of cell it is. For example neurons would simply communicate with other neurons and release neurotransmitters.
