if forest are a renewable resource, then why are cutting trees discouraged and sometimes even banned?

Trees are cut at a faster rate than they are planted. Often times, such as in the   Amazon rainforest, trees aren't replanted at all. Trees take years to grow, and at the rate deforestation occurs, it may not be enough to reverse the effect of climate change.

Forests or trees might be considered a non-renewable resource if they are cut down faster than they grow back.
