In general, freshwater fish require salinity (salt) levels of 1.0 ppt or lower. You measure the salinity of a freshwater aquarium to be 3.0 ppt. Predict what will happen to the cells of the fish as a result of the salinity level in the aquarium. 1) Is tank water hyper, hypo or isotonic to the fish cells? Explain why.

2) Based on your answer to part 1, what will this type of solution ultimately do to the cells of the fish? ( which way will the water move into or out of the fish cells?)
