HELPP RED CELERY EXPERIMENT

A hypothesis is a reasonable, or educated, guess that could solve the scientist's problem. I know that non-scientific people have a circulatory system that carries food to every cell of the body. My hypothesis is that plants have a special pipeline that carries water from the roots to every cell in the plant.

A scientist must have evidence to support or to deny his or her hypothesis. To obtain this evidence, a scientist must test his or her hypothesis. The test of a hypothesis is called an experiment. An experiment produces results that are compared to the hypothesis to determine whether the hypothesis is correct. I shall conduct my experiment in a laboratory and observe the result. To test my hypothesis, I shall put celery in a half a glass of water colored with red food coloring.

Try this investigation to see if your experiment proves John's hypothesis.

Compile a summary of your findings from this investigation. Be sure to include answers to the questions below as well as your own data and reflections.

Describe your method in going about this investigation.

What was your hypothesis? Was it proven to be true?

Describe the cross-section of celery. Did it look the way you expected it to?

Which parts of the stem have the most food coloring?

Did the cross-section of the celery look the same as the bottom of the stalk?

Did your data agree with John's results?

What did you find out from this experiment? Be thoughtful in your answer.
