Track and Analyze Your Food Intake
In this activity, you’ll keep a food log for three days, writing down all the food you eat. Then you’ll analyze your diet by comparing it to the MyPlate recommendations for people your age.
Estimated time to complete: 3 days
Active time: 1 hour each day and 2 additional hours on the last day
These materials are optional:
measuring cups
measuring spoons
a kitchen scale
Part A: Collect Data
To begin, input this data to find your specific MyPlate recommendations. Submit your age, gender, weight, height, and current level of physical activity. The site will calculate this data and provide a link to your recommended calorie plan. This plan will give you daily recommendations for each food group to help you stay healthy. Download your recommendations to use when analyzing your food log.
It’s important to note that MyPlate makes general recommendations for people your age, gender, weight, and activity level, but it doesn’t represent every possible healthy diet. Additionally, your individual nutrition needs may vary, especially if you have a medical condition.
Question 1
After evaluating your MyPlate recommendations, make a prediction. Do you think your diet will meet these daily recommendations? Are there any recommendations you don’t think your diet will meet?

Sea levels are rising due to climate change while increasing numbers of people are moving into coastal areas. to accommodate more people, there has been increased construction of beachfront resorts and condominiums. how is this impacting sea turtle numbers and biodiversity and why? a. the increased human population in coastal areas has meant that more food is available to the turtles (e. g., dropped food, waste from restaurants), which has led to an increase in the numbers and diversity of sea turtles. b. there has been very little change in the numbers and biodiversity of sea turtles because the planet is so vast that they can simply relocate to less crowded beaches. c. this has resulted in a decrease in numbers and diversity of sea turtles because it is restricting available nesting sites, and hence reproduction. d. this has resulted in an increase in numbers and diversity of sea turtles because people are around to protect them from natural predators.
