A friend is studying population genetics of the T locus in beetles in Africa. He says that over 30 years the frequency of the T allele has declined from 0.7 to 0.2. He is convinced that directional selection favors the t allele because tt animals burrow better. Why would you ask about population sizes before you accepted his explanation
