If you were stranded on a desert island, what kind of a political society would you create? If everyone on the island pooled his or her resources and talents, you would have a socialist society. On the other hand, if you view talents and possessions as personal property, you would have a neoliberal capitalist society. In between, you might achieve a society of welfare capitalism or social democracy. If you chose to operate a democratic state, what form of democracy would you choose? Once you established a form of political society, who would lead it, and how would that person(s) govern? You could have a government by tradition, a theocracy, or be governed by the best person for the job. In a multicultural society, there is sometimes a tension between protecting the rights of individuals and promoting the traditions of society’s many cultures. How should these tensions be dealt with?
