The Question: What does it mean to be an extremophile? Describe one extremophile condition and explain how it would relate to the environment that a prokaryote is growing within. How might it alter their growth cycle/curve?
The Person's Extremophiles are any organism living in any ecological condition outside the normal growth condition which is determined by nutrition and niche-specific physical parameters like temperature and pH. An environment with extremely high temperatures can be considered an extremophile condition, the growth curve for prokaryotes living in the environment is different. For E. g. Picrophilus torridus is a thermoacidophile adapted to acidic and hot conditions.
Psychrophiles: ~0°C–20°C
Mesophiles: ~15°C–45°C
Thermophiles: ~40°C–80°C
Hyperthermophiles: ~65°C–121°C
