Corals, the basic structures of coral reefs, are affected by the increasing acidity (decreasing pH) of the oceans. When the ocean absorbs carbon dioxide, the carbon dioxide reacts with water and other
substances to form carbonic acid. This process uses substances in the ocean that corals use to build
their skeletons. So, the more carbon dioxide there is in the ocean, the harder it is for corals to build their
skeletons. Ocean acidification can also destroy existing coral reefs.
1. Give two possible ways that negative human impact on the pH of Earth’s oceans can be reduced.

2. Conduct research to learn more about your proposed solutions. Be sure to look up information
about cost, safety, reliability, and social or cultural implications when applicable. What are the
pros of each solution? What are the cons of each solution? (10 points)

3. Which solution would be better to implement? Justify your answer. (3 points)

4. What sources did you use? (3 points)

Scenario 5 1) take 10 red and 10 black beans and place them, mixed, on the table. record the starting phenotype # and frequencies (% of your total population) of your starting population in the table provided (generation 0). 2) act as a predator. “capture” as many organisms as you can until you have reduced the population to three organisms. put them aside. at this point, the predators die. 3) the remaining organisms each produce 2 clonal offspring. multiply your organisms accordingly and allow them to mix on the table. calculate and record the resultant phenotype # and frequencies (% of your total population) of your population in the table provided (generation 1). 4) repeat the reproduction event, allowing each of your organisms to produce 2 clonal offspring. calculate and record the resultant phenotype # and frequencies (% of your total population) of your population in the table provided (generation 2). 5) repeat the reproduction event, allowing each of your organisms to produce 2 clonal offspring. calculate and record the resultant phenotype # and frequencies (% of your total population) of your population in the table provided (generation 3).

What is the relative placement of the moon, earth and sun during a lunar eclipse? the sun, earth and moon are aligned with the earth in the middle and the moon furthest away from the sun. the moon and sun are aligned with the earth at right a right angle to the moon. the sun, earth and moon are aligned with the moon in the center and the earth furthest away from the sun. the earth and sun are aligned with the moon is at a right angle to earth. 2. choose the best explanation of a partial solar eclipse. during a new moon phase there is usually a partial but not total eclipse. the earth only partially covers the sun during the eclipse. the moon only partially covers the sun during the eclipse. the moon only partially covers the sun during the eclipse. the moon's phase is full and blocks out most but not all of the sun. 3. what are conditions necessary for a total solar eclipse? moon in perigee orbit, earth a direct line between sun and moon, moon in full moon phase moon in perigee orbit; moon moves a direct line between sun and earth; moon in full moon phase moon in perigee orbit; moon moves a direct line between sun and earth; moon in new moon phase moon in apogee orbit, moon moves a direct line between sun and earth; moon in new moon phase 4. what causes a partial lunar eclipse? only the penumbra of the earth passes across the moon creating a circular shadow. the earth's umbra fits inside the moon creating an illuminated ring known as a annular eclipse. a partial eclipse causes the moon to turn reddish from the refraction of the sun's ray through the earth atmosphere. the earth's umbra only cover a part of the moon causing a circular shadow to pass across it.
