How do mutagens affect chromosomes? athey change the chemical composition of dna, which can affect the structure or number of chromosomes. they attack the inner part of the chromosome, changing the sequence of dna in the centromere of the chromosome. they alter the size of the chromosome, which affects the way a chromosome passes genetic traits from parents to offspring.
