Explain how the structure of water molecules account for each of the following properties: cohesion, adhesion, high specific heat, floating ice, good solvent properties, dissociation of water molecules

Each of the water molecule has a partial positive and a partial negative end to it which is the main cause of most of its properties. Cohesion is the ability of the substance to withstand rupture when subjected to stress and adhesion is the attraction between molecules. The structure of water molecules allows it exhibit cohesion which is manifested by the surface tension of water and adhesion is seen in a capillary action where water climbs up a narrow tube.  Also, due to the partial charges, water can dissolve almost all substance making it a good solvent. Water molecules are bonded by hydrogen bonding which is a much stronger force to break as compared to other intermolecular forces. With this, more heat is needed to raise the temperature of a sample of it leading to a high specific heat.
