Traction refers to the erosion and the transportation of coarser materials by rolling and sliding of sediment particles. The particles undergo friction while transportation. This is one of the ways in which the transporting agents like wind and water carry sediments from one place to another. It is usually a slow process of sediment transportation in comparison to saltation, suspension, and solution. Wind can carry sediment by traction process up to a few hundreds of kilometers.
