How many stomachs does a cow have?

Many people who've never been near a dairy farm have heard that cows have four stomachs. It's one of the questions I get asked most often. The Yes and no. Cows technically only have one stomach, but it has four distinct compartments. The basic answer answer you're looking for is that cows have four stomachs. Though, more accurately their one stomach has four separate compartments each with a separate function. The compartments are;

The Reticulum
The Rumen
The Omasum
And the Abomasum
