The electron transport chain is the final stage of aerobic respiration which uses free oxygen as the final electron acceptor. Electron transport chain occurs on the inner membrane of the mitochondrion through five protein structures.  During glycolysis and Krebs cycle total NADH and FADH2 molecules are formed. When NADH and FADH2 e move along electron transport chains, high-energy electrons are released from NADH and FADH2   and produce ATP. Each NADH produces 3 ATP and each FADH2 produces 2 ATP.
