Large macromolecules such as glucose is present in foods we eat. So during digestion, those large macromolecules are broken down into smaller molecules. As the chemical bonds are broken, energy is released. That released energy is used by cells to regenerate ATP molecules. The energy stored in the ATP molecules are then used to power the cell's movement, and other functions.
