Describe the pathway of taste reception from the point where food comes into contact with the tongue to the point at which taste information travels to the brain briefly describe the structure and function of each organ along the pathway

The step  by step process of taste sensation and perception is as follows:

1.The food that we eat resides on the surface of tongue

2.The chemicals with in the food gets dissolved and form tastants

3.Tastants are received by the taste bud and the papillae though the gustatory hairs.  

4.Taste receptors after  stimulation by tastants convert the tanstants into sensory information  

5.These sensory information are then passed to the brain

6.The sensory information travel on the neural pathways along the facial cranial nerve and goes to the thalamus and then to the primary gustatory cortex for interpretation
