Thermoreceptors, testing hot and cold: There are two different types of thermoreceptors in the skin: End Bulbs of Krause and Ruffini End Organs. End Bulbs of Krause detect cold while Ruffini End Organs detect heat. These receptors are both phasic in nature. Fill one cup with warm water, one cup with ice water, and two cups with room temperature water. Submerge the fingers of one hand in the warm water cup and the fingers of the other hand in the ice water cup. Keep them submerged for 1 minute. Now, place the fingers of each hand in the room temperature cups. Since the receptors are phasic, what do you expect will happen if you submerge your hand in warm water for 2 minutes?
