Use the following questions and answers to write a lab report. 1. What is the purpose of the lab?
The purpose of this lab is to understand how relative dating and absolute dating are used to determine the age of rock layers

2. What procedure did you use to complete the lab?
Outline the steps of the procedure in full sentences.
Prepare for the lab by reading through the student guide. Open the virtual lab and use the law of superposition to determine the relative ages of layers. Read about relative dating and the law of superposition. Examine the two outcrops and determine the relative ages of the rock layers based on the law of superposition. Arrange the rock layers from oldest to youngest. Repeat if you get it wrong until you get it right. Write the names of the rock layers in order of their relative ages and write their descriptions in Table A. Use index fossils to determine the relative ages of layers. Read about ammonites, crinoids, and trilobites. Examine the two outcrops and determine the relative ages of the rock layers based on the law of superposition. Arrange the rock layers in order from oldest to youngest. Repeat if you get it wrong until you get it right. Write the names of the rock layers in the order of their relative ages and write their descriptions in Table B. Use the law of superposition and the principle of cross-cutting relationships to determine the relative ages of layers. Read about the cross-cutting principle. Examine the outcrop. Based on the law of superposition and the principle of cross-cutting relationships, determine the relative ages of the rock layers in the outcrop. Arrange the rock layers from oldest to youngest. Repeat if you get it wrong until you get it right. Write the names of the rock layers in the order of their relative ages in Table C of the Data section of this guide. Use a mass spectrometer to determine the absolute ages of rocks. Read about absolute dating. Drag the samples from the rock layers to the mass spectrometer. Record the absolute age of the rock layers in Table D. Use the data in Table D to arrange the rock layers in the geologic time scale from oldest to youngest. Repeat if you get it wrong until you get it right. Write the names of the rock layers in the order of their relative and absolute ages and write the name of the periods the rock layers were formed then write the name of the unknown fossil in Table E.

3. What charts, tables, or drawings would clearly show what you have learned in this lab?

(see below)

4. If you could repeat the lab and make it better, what would you do differently and why?
There are always ways that labs can be improved. Now that you are a veteran of this lab and have experience with the procedure, offer some advice to the next scientist about what you suggest and why. Your answer should be at least two to three sentences in length.
You can always improve your lab by being more specific. I would recheck, redo, and revise my answers, if necessary. Also, I can look at the lesson again, if I forgot something. So that's what I would do.

Is a measure of the resistance to flow. a high liquid has a high resistance to flow and flows slowly. the ancients thought everything in the world was made of 4 we now know that there are 94 naturally occurring and scientists have created another 24 i am certain they will create even more. honey flows slowly because it has a high to flowing. a can be separated by physical means because it contains more than one pure substance and 2 pure substances are not chemically bonded to each other. a cannot be separated by physical means. all matter is made up of all elements are with the same number of protons. if it is just a single or many bonded together, if all of them have the same number of protons, it is an element. in a piece of pure iron metal, all the are joined together, that piece of iron metal is called elemental iron. a single of iron is called elemental iron. a mixture has differences from place to place. we might need a microscope to see them or they might be obvious to the unaided eye. there are surfaces separating it into different phases. a mixture is the same everywhere. it is uniform. there are no surfaces separating it into different phases. if different kinds of atoms (different elements) are bonded together by their electrons, it is called a there are physical means of to isolate the different pure substances in a mixture and there are chemical means of to isolate the different elements in a compound. 1. element 2. compound 3. mixture 4. heterogeneous 5. homogeneous 6. pure substance 7. atoms 8. separation 9. viscosity 10. resistance
