What is the relationship between phenotype and genotype?

A phenotype is the combination of alleles that you have for a certain feature. So a person who suffers from sickle cell disease or cystic fibrosis will have 2 identical recessive alleles coding for a mutation that results in them having the condition (the phenotype).

The phenotype is the observable characteristic someone has as a result of their genotype, so if a plant has one dominant allele and one recessive for height, it will be tall. If it has 2 recessive alleles, it will be short.
