Scientific observations have concluded that the Appalachian Mountains are decreasing in elevation at a constant rate each year. Table 1 Shows the estimated elevation of Mount Mitchell, the tallest peak of the Appalachian Mountains, at different times over the past 5 million years. Table 2 shows different weather data at Mount Mitchell over the same time period.
