Now that you have a basic understanding of what infectious diseases are and the various microorganisms that can cause them, put your knowledge to work. In this portfolio project, you will research four different human pathogens and prepare public service announcements to inform others about the illness caused by each pathogen. Research four illnesses that afflict humans. Each illness should be caused by a pathogenic organism of a different type:
an illness caused by a bacterium
an illness caused by a virus
an illness caused by a fungus
an illness caused by a protist

Prepare a public service announcement for each illness in which you describe 1) how the illness is transmitted, 2) how it is treated, and 3) any prevention measures that are being used to prevent the illness. Include a bibliography with each announcement to show the names of the sources you used. You may create your announcement in written form as a pamphlet, poster, or computer slideshow. Alternatively, you may make your announcement in the form of a video or audio recording.
