Campaign to Reproduce

Many developed countries are now experiencing population decline. The population decline has led to a large elderly group without enough younger people to support them. Young people support the older generation by working and paying taxes. Also, fewer people leads to fewer consumers, which has a negative impact on economy.

The fear of economic decline has caused some governments, such as Japan and Singapore, to start campaigns to encourage women to marry and reproduce. Analysts largely agree that these campaigns will be futile unless working conditions are changed to allow women to both have a successful career path and a family.

The majority of economists are alarmed by declining populations, while the majority of environmentalists believe that decreased populations are better for the environment.
